Patient Support
At LaFollette Medical Center, we believe supporting patients is an important part of our care. Cancer treatment often involves numerous specialists, procedures and therapies, and can often be overwhelming. That's why cancer care encompasses a range of support services that address everything from education and care management assistance, to support groups and spiritual care.
We offer a variety of services to assist you throughout your care, including:
- Nurse navigator – The nurse navigators at LaFollette Medical Center are licensed registered nurses who can answer your questions and help you get the treatments you need. They can also help with insurance issues, identify appropriate support programs, coordinate transportation, compile educational materials and much more.
- Nutritional counseling – Eating the right kinds of foods before, during and after treatment can help you feel better and stay stronger. Registered dietitians can help you incorporate proper nutrition to regain strength, rebuild tissue and feel better overall.
- Cancer Well-fit program – This exercise regimen is specially designed to improve recovery and reduce fatigue during and after treatments. The program is free and available at Tennova Health & Fitness Center. A physician's release form is required. For more information, call (865) 362-8510.
- Spiritual care – Chaplains are available to provide compassionate spiritual and emotional support to you and your family. Contact the spiritual care department to arrange a visit from a hospital chaplain or to arrange a special visit from your clergy.
- Home health care – LaFollette Medical Center Home Health and Hospice provides quality, cost-effective care through a staff of skilled professionals that includes nurses, home health aides, therapists and social workers. Services include skilled nursing, home care assistance, nutritional counseling and rehabilitation therapy.
- Hospice care – The LaFollette Medical Center Home Health and Hospice team includes physicians, registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, chaplains and dedicated volunteers who are sensitive and responsive to the needs of patients and families. The team provides medical care, education and emotional support through services such as nursing care, medication and medical equipment for the home.
- Palliative care – Palliative care, or supportive care, focuses on comfort rather than treatment, and seeks to improve quality of life for patients with serious, life-limiting illness. The palliative care team works closely with patients and families to identify treatments that focus on maintaining the patient's comfort and the best quality of life.
