In addition to delivering safe, quality, compassionate healthcare, the health system is helping those in need, supporting charitable organizations and contributing to the area economy. In its most recent community benefit report, Tennova Healthcare - LaFollette Medical Center’s impact totaled an estimated $46 million in 2024.
“Our work to grow and enhance the medical services we provide is ongoing, as we continuously improve our safety and quality and support access to healthcare for our community,” said Mark Cain, CEO, of Tennova Healthcare - LaFollette Medical Center. “From providing care to our most vulnerable residents to supporting local charitable organizations, we are proud to make an impact on the health, well-being and quality of life in Campbell County and the surrounding areas.”
Tennova Healthcare - LaFollette Medical Center’s emergency room provides lifesaving, medically necessary care at more than 15,000 patient encounters each year, treating all patients regardless of their ability to pay. In 2024, Tennova Healthcare - LaFollette Medical Center provided nearly $16 million in charity and uncompensated care and provided resources to help patients in need secure medications and medical support devices.
The health system and its employees also support local organizations that make a difference, especially those addressing social determinants of health. Through service projects such as the annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter drive for the Food Life Service & LaFollette Church of God's Food Pantry and contributions to charitable organizations such as Campbell County Children’s Center, South Campbell Rotary Club and the Boy Scouts of America, Tennova Healthcare - LaFollette Medical Center gives back to the community throughout the year.
To enhance patient care and expand healthcare access, Tennova Healthcare - LaFollette Medical Center is investing in medical services, facilities and technologies. Capital projects in 2024 totaled approximately $1 million and included parking lot projects to add new spaces near the emergency department and front entrance, new ultrasound equipment and a pneumatic tube system to improve efficiencies between the lab and the emergency department.
The hospital also took steps to strengthen services to the community by adding a new orthopedic service line. Recruitment of Dr. O’Brien means that individuals with bone, joint or muscle issues can access expert treatment locally, reducing the need for long travel to distant centers. It also promotes faster diagnosis, personalized care and quicker recovery times, improving overall quality of life for patients.
“We are strategically applying our resources to help area residents have access to the care they need close to home,” said Cain. “These investments, along with our outstanding medical staff and employees, support our delivery of high-quality medical care and services for a positive patient experience.”
Tennova Healthcare - LaFollette Medical Center is one of the community’s larger employers, with a payroll of more than $26 million. Support for the future healthcare workforce includes supporting the next generation of medical professionals in events like the Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine event, designed to provide first and second-year medical students with valuable insights into clinical rotation site options and help them acquire essential information for their future medical careers.
