LaFollette Medical Center Earns 4-Star Quality Rating by CMS
5/7/2021
KNOXVILLE, TN (May 7, 2021) – Tennova Healthcare’s LaFollette Medical Center has been recognized as a four-star hospital by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), according to an announcement from Mark Cain, CEO of LaFollette Medical Center.
This Tennova hospital is among 988 facilities nationwide—and the only hospital in the LaFollette area—to receive a four-star overall rating. LaFollette Medical Center was also amongst the 5% of hospitals that jumped two stars in ranking from the prior year. The CMS quality rating scale ranges from one to five stars. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures.
LaFollette Medical Center exceeds the national average in safety in addition to the quality measure for readmissions. Additionally, this hospital performs in line with the national average in all six remaining categories: patient experience, safety, effectiveness of care, timeliness, mortality, and efficient use of medical imaging.
“At LaFollette Medical Center, we have been working diligently to improve quality and safety,” Cain said. “By listening to our patients and medical staff, we were able to improve both and receive this four star ranking. I can’t thank our physicians, nurses, and all staff enough for their hard work and dedications, especially during this difficult time.”
CMS developed the quality rating system to help consumers make decisions on where to receive care. Each year, CMS rates the nation’s Medicare-certified hospitals and publishes the star ratings on its “Hospital Compare” website. The website provides additional details on the rating system and quality measures.
